As guests arrive, wrap a bandana around each head, add a temporary pirate tattoo, an eye patch, and perhaps a sash around the waist. A quick drawn-on beard or moustache completes the look. Give each child a pirate name written on a sticker for their top.
Once everyone’s ready, get them to shout “Arrrrrr!” and begin the games:
1. Peg-leg race — a three-legged race, with pirate gold medallion necklaces as prizes for the winners.
2. Sink the ship — fill a bath with cold water and float two lightweight takeaway containers as “ships.” Give two players an equal number of small bouncy balls as cannonballs, and let them try to sink the opposing ship. 3. Treasure hunt — write clues on paper, folded and crumpled (or with singed edges) to look weathered, and hide them around the house or garden in a trail.
